Best Graph Paper for Math Homework: Pick by Assignment Type
The best graph paper for math is not always the same sheet. A calculation page, an algebra graph, a geometry sketch, and a data chart each need a different kind of structure.
Most homework
5mm square grid
Good for calculations, tables, diagrams, and general organization.
Algebra
Coordinate plane
Use when the assignment has X/Y axes, points, slope, or functions.
Younger students
1cm grid
Larger squares help with counting, area, perimeter, and handwriting.
If the homework is mostly calculations
Use plain square grid paper. The grid keeps numbers aligned, gives room for small diagrams, and makes multi-step work easier to scan. For most students, 5mm is the best default spacing.
If the homework asks students to graph equations
Use coordinate plane paper instead of plain graph paper. A printed X and Y axis saves time and reduces mistakes. Students can focus on plotting points, slope, intercepts, and functions instead of drawing axes by hand.
If the homework is geometry
Match the paper to the shape work. Square grid paper works for area, perimeter, translations, reflections, and scale drawings. Isometric paper is better for cubes and 3D solids. Triangle grid paper helps with tessellations and equilateral triangle patterns.
If the homework is data or charts
Use square grid paper for bar charts, line graphs, and scatter plots. Only use semi-log paper when the assignment specifically uses logarithmic scale or data that changes by powers of ten.

Do not forget the printer setting
Math graph paper should be printed at 100% or Actual Size, especially if students use rulers. If the page is scaled, a square that should be 5mm may print smaller.
