A4 5mm Hex Grid Paper PDF
A4 portrait | 5mm hexes | Flat top
A4 landscape hex grid paper
This A4 landscape template uses pointy-top hexagons with a vertex at the top and bottom and 6mm edge lengths on a 210 x 297 mm page. Use it for vertical maps, alternate game layouts, and connected diagrams, or customize the colors and margins.
Template details
A4 is the international standard for everyday home, school, and office printing and is the most compatible metric paper choice. Every hexagon has a 6mm edge, a 12 mm point-to-point diameter, and a 10.4 mm flat-to-flat diameter.
Pointy-top hexes have a vertex at the top and bottom and form staggered rows across the page. The centered grid area is approximately 275.4 x 183 mm and contains about 26 x 20 staggered hex positions.
A 6mm hex grid balances cell count and writing room for general maps, tabletop planning, chemistry diagrams, and classroom activities.
Each cell has six evenly arranged neighbors, making the 6mm grid useful for movement, distance, terrain, encounters, and board-game layouts.
Use the repeated six-sided cells for molecular sketches, network diagrams, tiling studies, spatial planning, and designs built from connected units.
Pointy-top grids suit vertically organized maps, alternate game-board layouts, and routes that visually emphasize north-south movement. A4 is suited to international home, school, and office printing.
Both formats preserve the same 6mm edge length and pointy-top layout. Choose A4 for international home, school, and office printing; choose US Letter when us home, school, and office printing better matches the printer or project.

Use the PDF when the physical hex dimensions matter. The edge length and repeated geometry are preserved when the printer uses the correct paper and scale settings.
Load 210 x 297 mm paper and select A4 as the paper size in the print dialog.
Select Actual Size or 100% scale. Turn off Fit, Shrink, and Scale to Page options.
Keep the print dialog set to landscape so the grid is not rotated or reduced automatically.
Use a ruler to confirm that one straight side of a hexagon measures 6mm.

Answers specific to printing 6mm pointy-top hex grid paper on A4.
The listed size is the length of one straight hexagon edge. Each cell measures 12 mm from opposite points and approximately 10.4 mm between opposite flat sides.
This landscape template contains approximately 26 x 20 staggered hex positions inside a 275.4 x 183 mm centered grid area. Edge cells can be clipped by the rectangular border.
Choose the orientation that matches your map, game system, or diagram. Both provide six equal neighbors and identical cell dimensions; pointy top is simply a 30-degree rotation of flat top.
Select A4 paper, use Actual Size or 100% scale, and disable Fit to Page. Then verify that one edge measures 6mm.
Portrait is useful for tall maps and vertically organized diagrams. Landscape provides more horizontal room for wide maps, encounters, routes, and board layouts.
