Template details
A4 is the international standard for everyday home, school, and office printing and is the most compatible metric paper choice. Each square on this template measures 2mm, equal to 2mm, so the grid contains 5 squares per centimeter.
With the template's 10mm margins, the usable grid area is 190 x 277 mm. It contains approximately 95 x 138 complete 2mm squares in portrait orientation.
A 2mm grid is intended for fine-detail plotting, compact calculations, small diagrams, and layouts that need more precision than standard graph paper.
A4 fits standard binders and classroom printers while leaving enough room for calculations, plots, and geometry exercises.
Use the regular grid to align measurements, diagrams, tables, and engineering notes on a familiar metric sheet.
A4 is widely supported outside North America and is a practical default when the finished sheet needs to be filed or copied.
Both formats preserve the same 2mm grid measurement. Choose A4 for international home, school, and office printing; choose US Letter when us home, school, and office printing is a better match for the printer or project.
Open US Letter 2mm square grid paper →| Comparison | A4 | US Letter |
|---|---|---|
| Page size | 210 x 297 mm (8.27 x 11.69 in) | 8.5 x 11 in (215.9 x 279.4 mm) |

| Complete 2mm squares | 95 x 138 | 97 x 129 |

The PDF is vector-based, but the stated grid measurement is only preserved when the printer uses the correct paper and scale settings.
Load 210 x 297 mm paper and select A4 as the paper size in the print dialog.
Select Actual Size or 100% scale. Turn off Fit, Shrink, and Scale to Page options.
Keep the print dialog set to portrait so the PDF is not rotated or reduced automatically.
Measure five consecutive squares; together they should span exactly one centimeter.

Answers specific to printing 2mm square grid paper on A4 sheets.
With the current 10mm margins, this portrait A4 template fits approximately 95 x 138 complete 2mm squares. Partial space can remain at the outer edge when the printable area is not an exact multiple of the grid spacing.
Each square is 2mm wide and high, so five squares fit in one centimeter. It is considerably finer than common 5mm graph paper.
Not at the original page size without cropping or scaling. Scaling changes the 2mm measurement, so use the US Letter template when that is the paper loaded in the printer.
Select A4 paper, use Actual Size or 100% scale, and disable Fit to Page. Then use a ruler to confirm the 2mm spacing.
Portrait is better for vertically organized calculations, timelines, and worksheets. Landscape is better for wide charts, tables, schedules, and layouts. Both use the same 2mm spacing.
