Why this grid works

Starting at zero aligns 0, 10, 20, and the other multiples of ten in the first column. The row then shows every possible ones digit from 0 through 9. This structure is a strong fit for place-value work and for connecting two-digit numbers to base-ten representations.

Three ways to use it

  1. 01

    Build two-digit numbers

Name the row as the tens value and the column as the ones value.

  2. 02

    Compare decades

Trace the same ones digit down a column and explain what stays the same.

  3. 03

    Mental addition

Practice adding one, ten, or eleven by predicting the direction of each move.
